A Second Short-Term Goal

Once the straight forward language of acting or the ABC’s of acting are under the belt, it’s time to move into the very heart & soul of acting.

How does an actor start feeling like an actor?

Here is a quick background.

Historical figures in the acting world spawned various styles of acting.  These styles that hallmark the variations seen in an actor’s performance are sometimes referred to as Method Acting, also known as The Method.Techniques include those of Stanislavski, Classical, Meisner, Uta Hagen and others.

So now the exhilaration is about to begin.  What happens next is an exciting process in an actor’s career.  At this point, most actors wonder if they are “ready” to take the plunge. There is simply no better way to say this except to say

JUST DIVE IN!!!!!!!!!

Acting coaches & acting mentors will:

  • provide acting exercises to work on at home
  • distribute individual scene scripts to the actor to memorize & rehearse
  • suggest outside material such as a monologue to prepare
  • help breakdown your scene performances & give you tips
  • assist you in delivering believable performances

These are fabulous opportunities to begin honing an actor’s skills. Creating a character in a scene from a script and delivering the emotion of that character is not only fun but will become a main objective of every performance.  Those scenes will be performed in front of an acting coach & acting classmates and later even at an audition.

These steps are unquestionably some of the greatest ways to become a good actor. Although acting classes & scene work can definitely be time consuming, they are truly worth the time investment.

But, you say,

Who is in a rush?  Right?

Without a doubt, scene work provides a priceless opportunity to experience the emotion of a character that the actor must deliver to the screen. This is a vital development period in every actor’s career & continues throughout even the most seasoned actor.

  • The transformation is happening.
  • You are becoming an actor.
  • Your coaches, you & others will act as your cheer leaders.
  • You will keep close at hand your dream as you see it.

Congratulations! You have just crossed the finish line of short-term goal #2
