Actors are performers and performers want to perform. Common questions are where do I begin and how do I go about it. Trying to organize yourself and juggle all the pieces is a challenge for every actor.
A great way to start is by first preparing a resume. The entertainment industry has set standardized resume guidelines. An actor’s resume lists several sections including a list of an actor’s credits, training & skills. Credits describe the projects that an actor has performed in such as theatre plays, television shows and films. The credits are separated by category headings & columns.
What should I put first on my resume?
- Your professional actor stage name at the top
- Your contact information: Professional email address & business phone number only
- Contact information of agent or manager if applicable
- Height, eye color, hair color only
- Name of union status if applicable
- Left sided heading: Titled FILM
- Left sided column: Name of film with most recent film listed first at the top
- Middle column: Principal role type such as lead or supporting & character name
- Right sided column: Name of the production company & director
What’s next?
- A left sided heading: Titled TELEVISION
- Left sided column: Name of TV show & episode
- Middle column: Principal role played such as co-star or recurring & character name
- Right sided column: Names of network or production company & director
- A left sided heading: Titled THEATRE
- Left sided column: Name of play
- Middle column: Name of character
- Right sided column: Name of theatre
And then what?
- A left sided heading: Titled TRAINING
- Left sided list or short paragraph of education & acting training
- Left sided heading: Titled SKILLS
- Left sided list or succinct paragraph describing skills & ability
- Left sided heading: Titled AWARDS if applicable & space permitting
